Join us for the Third Annual Rail Trail Half Marathon on Sunday, June 24th. This is one of the few half marathons offered in Maine.

“Run for the Trail” will be held Sunday, June 26th starting at the Old Fort Western Parking Lot on Cony Street in Augusta (adjacent to Augusta City Center). Pre-registration deadline is Monday June 20th.
Check-in
Early check-in: Saturday, June 25th from 5:30 - 7:30pm in Augusta City Center Lecture Hall.
Day of check-in: Check-in and onsite registration will begin one hour before the race begins in the Augusta City Center Lecture Hall.
Half marathoners will start at 7:30 a.m. (registration begins at 6:30 a.m.)
5K will start at 7:30 a.m. (registration at 6:30 a.m.).
Other events include: Half Marathon Relay, 30 mile Challenge starting at 5:30 am and 5K starting at 7:45 am. Refreshments, prizes, and drawings will be offered during the closing ceremony All Events will take place rain or shine.
Closing Ceremony
Half Marathon at finish line at 10:00 am
5K at the finish line at 8:30 am.
Half Marathon Route
- The 13.1 mile route starts at the Old Fort Western parking lot, proceeds down Cony Street, turning left onto Water Street to the MSHA trail head, continues down the Kennebec River Rail Trail through Hallowell, back on the Rail Trail through Farmingdale to the Gardiner Hannaford Parking lot, and returns along the same route, returning to the MSHA parking lot.

Directions / Parking
There will be plenty of parking in the Old Fort Western and City Center parking lots and in the parking lots in Downtown Augusta.

Rail Trail ½ Marathon Rules
- The race course is fully staffed to direct you in which way to go.
- There are 2 sections of the course where you will cross through traffic in Hallowell: at Mile 3 and at Greenville St. at Mile 3.25. Police will be stopping traffic at Mile 3 and course monitors will be stopping traffic at Greenville St.
- Water and Gatorade Stations will be at Mile 2.25, 4.25, 5.75, 7.75, 9.25, and 11.25. Take water from Station 5.75 going out only. Take water from the right side of the trail in the direction you are running at water stations at mile 5.75 and 7.75. That means taking water from station 5.75 on the way out only, and from station 7.75 on the return only. Please do not cross the path of runners coming from the opposite direction.
- Many section of the trail are very narrow. Please stay to your right if runners are coming at you from the opposite direction.
- If you need medical help, please let a volunteer know. They all will have cell phones and will call for emergency services. Ambulances will be located in Augusta, Hallowell, Farmingdale, and Gardiner.
- Port-o-potty’s are located at Mile 3, Mile 5.5, Mile, Mile 7.75, and the finish line.
- Times will be called out at Mile 3, the turn-a-round, and Mile 10.
