After 13 years of hard work, the two ends of the Kennebec River Rail Trail
from Augusta to Hallowell and from Farmingdale to Gardiner have been completed,
and are being used by hundreds of people daily. Now we need your help raising
$160,000 in cash to build the middle 3-mile section from Hallowell to Farmingdale.
This amount will leverage an additional $560,000 in federal and state funding,
giving a total of $720,000 to complete the trail. We need to raise the $160,000
by the spring of 2004 to stay on schedule for planning and building this
longest and most scenic section of the trail.
Please donate generously so the trail can be completed for all to enjoy, by printing, filling out, and postal mailing the donation form (in PDF/Acrobat format*).
With your support we can expect many benefits to our communities including:
- Reconnecting our communities at their historic centers
- Shared use with walking, biking, running, skiing, etc.
- A safe, alternative commuting route
- Recreation and a place for healthy physical activity
- Direct connection to the proposed YMCA at Capitol Park in Augusta
- Economic development with visitors, prospective residents, shoppers
- Part of the East Coast Greenway from Calais, Maine to Key West, Florida
- Quiet place to connect with nature and a clean river
- Safe place to meet your neighbors and visitors
Generous donations of several corporate and individual supporters have kick-started our campaign, including pledges exceeding $7,000 from our own KRRT Board of Directors and Supervisors.
